The second phase of Jiuxiang River control project in the East Qinhuai River Demonstration section recently started, with a total investment of 259 million yuan. The person in charge of Qixia District Water Bureau introduced that Jiuxiang River upstream originated from Qinglongshan in Jiangning District, and downstream in Xianlin area of Qixia District, with a total length of about 22 kilometers and a watershed area of 105 square kilometers, it is the largest flood channel in Xianlin area. In recent years, Xianlin area every heavy rain appeared local flooding, the main reason is that the river drainage capacity is insufficient, flood control standards only 20 years once. After the completion of the second phase of the project, flood control standards will be raised to once in 100 years, which will solve the problem of flooding in the rainy season and solve the problem of irrigation of 140,000 mu of farmland along both sides of the river. In the dry season of autumn and winter, the gate will be closed to store water, and the landscape water level of 7.5 meters will be maintained, so that the water system in Xianlin area will be connected, active and clear.


"The first phase is just a trial, the second phase is really going to make a difference." Speaking about the significance and function of the construction of the East Qinhuai River, Shi Congcong, deputy director of the infrastructure Department of the Municipal Water Bureau, said that the Qinhuai River is an important river flowing through the main city of Nanjing. According to the calculation of a 50-year flood, the Qinhuai River needs to discharge 1,700 cubic meters of flood per second, but the current Qinhuai River and Qinhuai New River two inlet water discharge capacity is only 1,400 cubic meters. There is still a gap of 300 cubic meters, and it is urgent to start construction of the East Qinhuai River project. The Qinhuai East River construction plan has been approved with a total investment of more than 8 billion yuan. In accordance with the annual implementation plan, Jiuxiang River was selected as a demonstration section for trial first. After the completion of the second phase of the project, the Qixia section of the East Qinhuai River will be built first, becoming a model for the construction of the East Qinhuai River.
