Function 1: Open up obstructed urban water system

The upper reaches of the Pearl River connect with the Xuanwu Lake Wumiao gate, and the lower reaches into the northern section of the inner Qinhuai River near the pontoon bridge, which is the channel from the Xuanwu Lake to the inner Qinhuai River water supply.

Among the 72 river channels, there are Friendship River, Grain Transport River, Qilijie section of the Outer Qinhuai River and so on. The regulation of these rivers is the first step to open up the urban water system in Nanjing.

Function 2: Improve the water quality of provincial examination water section

The water quality of provincial water section is an important index to assess urban water environment. In 2017, only 10 of 22 provincial sections in Nanjing could meet the Class III water quality standard.

The location of the provincial examination section is fixed. The environmental protection department takes water samples from the section regularly for testing, and determines whether the water quality meets the standards according to the concentration of pollutants such as ammonia nitrogen and chemical oxygen demand in the water. According to the requirements, the water quality of 22 sections must be in class IV or above, but some of the monitoring sections are still in Class V for many months. In March last year, the provincial Environmental Protection Department interviewed the head of the relevant district and adopted regional approval measures because the water quality of the Qiqiao Weng section of the Outer Qinhuai River and the Luopeng Wan section of the Xuhe River was not up to standard.

Most of the sections are located in key rivers. Last year, our city completed the rectification of the river where the sections are located. In order to improve the water quality of the sections, the water quality of the tributaries will be improved this year. Function three: to improve the water quality of key rivers, key rivers and lakes

Jinchuan River is located in the north of Nanjing city. It emerges from the Dashugen Gate of Xuanwu Lake and flows into the Yangtze River via Baota Bridge. It is an inlet channel and a tributary of the river controlled by the province. According to the provincial target, the water quality of Jinchuan River should reach Class IV water, but the current water quality is inferior Class V.
